ENGINEERING E2E

CLIENT: IPENZ & TEC

THE CHALLENGE

To get more young people interested in a career in engineering. Especially potential polytechnic students – with particular emphasis on females, Maori and Pacifika.

We needed to challenge outdated views and stereotypes of what engineering was about.

INSIGHTS & IDEAS

Literally everything around us is made by, or had an engineer across it at some stage in the creation process, and many of these everyday things (fashion, entertainment, health) are of great interest to young people.

By communicating that engineers ‘Make The World’ we made engineering a part of every industry and field, and in the process giving it the kudos it deserves.

Real engineering stories and achievements were curated into stories by influential kiwi personalities and media brands. They were then propagated as native content in places of social and cultural significance.

In the process people learnt about NZDE and BEngTech qualifications and the educational pathway to being an engineer.

RESULTS

Positive perception amongst young females increased from 24% to 55%

Positive perception amongst Maori & Pacifika increased from 30% to 59%

Engineering as a career consideration has risen from 10th place ranking to 6th
